Mathematical Skills / Experience
Mathematical experiences go on in the Nursery on a daily basis. Some of the skills are not exclusive but overlap with skills mentioned in other areas of the curriculum.
- Simple counting (through number songs and action songs , counting games and activities)
- One to one correspondence / relationship. ( to encourage understanding of concept of numbers).
- Shape identification and discrimination.
- Construction activities to develop an understanding of shape and space.
- Water and sand play : to develop concept of volume and capacity.
- Introduce to mathematical language.
- Basic concepts of measurement.
- Sorting.
- Classifying.
- Comparing.
- Ordering / patterning.
- Before and after pictures.
- Number recognition.
